Roadway Construction and Improvements
Roadway construction starts with a clear picture of what is changing along the road. At V&H Construction, we handle road reconstruction, intersection improvements, asphalt paving, and related roadway work. We’re based in Lehigh Acres, just east of Fort Myers, and welcome project inquiries across our Southwest Florida service area.
Call (239) 841-6400 or invite V&H to bid to discuss your roadway plans.
STA 1+00 · SCOPE
Define the Roadway Construction Scope
Section A–A / limits of construction. Identify the work area and what it connects to.
An intersection project has different boundaries from a longer road reconstruction package. Identify the work area and the existing features the project will connect to.
01
Reconstruction
Describe the road segment and the areas shown for removal, rebuilding, or restoration.
02
Intersections
Include the approaches, turning areas, and adjoining improvements covered by the plans.
03
Asphalt paving
Mark the paving limits and where new asphalt meets existing pavement, curbs, or other work.
04
Roadway improvements
Point out the specific changes and the limits of responsibility in the bid documents.
These descriptions help frame an inquiry. The project drawings and specifications provide the details for the actual construction scope.

Look Beyond the Pavement Edge
Road projects connect with the infrastructure beside and beneath them. A change to a roadway can sit alongside storm drainage, curbs, sidewalks, and pedestrian crossings. Include the relevant plan sheets when those elements affect the work you’re inviting us to consider.
Our drainage page covers stormwater systems and improvements. For sidewalks and curb and gutter, see concrete construction. Reviewing the connected work together helps describe where each portion of a package begins and ends.

Access and Project Timing
A useful invitation identifies how the project documents address access during construction. Note any stated traffic arrangements, construction phases, work-hour restrictions, and access points that must remain available. Include those requirements with the scope rather than leaving them out of the first conversation.
Share the bid due date separately from the planned construction dates. They answer different questions. If the schedule is preliminary, label it that way and identify the version of the documents you’re sending.

STA 4+00 · QUESTIONS
Roadwork Questions
01 What should a roadway bid package contain? −
Include the location, construction limits, applicable drawings, specifications, and relevant addenda. A brief note identifying the work you want priced helps connect the full document set to your request.
02 Can an inquiry cover both road and sidewalk improvements? +
Yes. Identify each portion in the invitation and include the corresponding details. Explain any work assigned to another contractor so the discussion starts with the intended boundaries.
03 What affects the cost of road reconstruction? +
The extent of removal and rebuilding, specified materials, access, and adjoining work all shape the construction package. A project-specific price requires a defined scope; a road length alone doesn’t describe every cost.
04 How should I describe the required schedule? +
Provide the dates and phasing stated by the project team, including any milestones that affect the roadway portion. Don’t treat the bid deadline as the construction start date.
05 Where can I see photographs of roadway activity? +
Browse our project gallery. If you’re asking about a particular image, identify it in your message so the discussion has a clear reference.

Appendix · Roadway terms
Terms on a Roadway Sheet
Four line items that appear on most roadway packages, described plainly.
Term 01
Subgrade
The prepared ground the roadway is built on. Plans usually state how it is to be prepared before base material goes down.
Term 02
Base course
The layer between subgrade and pavement. Its material and thickness are called out in the specifications.
Term 03
Milling and resurfacing
Removing part of the existing surface and placing a new one. Common on improvement projects rather than new alignments.
Term 04
Maintenance of traffic
The traffic control required while the work is underway. It belongs in the scope discussion when the road stays in use.
